About Kabale
Kabale was officially founded in 2003, in Dubai, after the founder and head designer, Aline Abtour, launched the Middle East's most innovative and successful chain of cafe-restaurants, Shakespeare & Co. With growing demands for the new niche designs, Kabale opened its door to customers and stores around the UAE.
The Designer
With a rich tapestry of design history, Aline Abtour started her career creating and selling custom handbags and jewelry at exhibitions. Evolving steadily, she turned her attention to fashion; creating eclectic versions of traditional abayas and dresses displayed in multiple fashion shows. She recalls people playfully telling her that her gowns looked like curtains. Ever the artist, this clicked something in Aline’s mind: “if my dresses look like curtains, I will make curtains that remind people of dresses!”
As people started ordering her new styled curtains, Kabale started in Aline’s home. She recalls that it never started as a company, but instead as a way of sharing and dialoguing. With her new funky creations, people started turning to Aline for help with parties, dinners and weddings, where she would transform any space into a unique dining experience.
Combining her talent for hosting and catering with her love of design lead to the conception of Shakespeare and Co. in 2001. Formulating an exciting dining concept that embodied rich vintage and playful Victorian style with a casual avant-garde flair, she was the visionary founder, and co-creator of one of the Middle East’s best F&B franchises. The vintage décor with a twist set in a lively bohemian tempo, caught the eyes of clients from all walks of life. As the restaurant gained patronage, the demand for these designs grew and Kabale grew to be the full workshop it is today.
